Pedro Porro Discusses His Future, Tottenham Loyalty and Spain’s World Cup Triumph
Pedro Porro has addressed speculation linking him with Real Madrid and Barcelona, while making clear that his immediate focus remains on Tottenham Hotspur. The Spain international says he renewed his contract before the 2026 World Cup so he could concentrate on the tournament without uncertainty surrounding his future.
Speaking on Cadena SER’s El Larguero, as reported by AS, the Tottenham right-back described the transfer talk as limited and said he had not invited offers. His comments offer a measured view of the rumours: major clubs may check a player’s availability, but that does not necessarily mean a serious move is being pursued.
Porro says Tottenham remains his priority
Porro acknowledged that clubs had made enquiries about his situation, including sides reportedly associated with Real Madrid and Barcelona. However, he stressed that those conversations did not amount to concrete interest in signing him. He also said he had no intention of listening to proposals while preparing for the World Cup.
“I settled the matter of renewing my contract before the World Cup, so that I could focus and have peace of mind,” Porro said. He added that he did not want transfer speculation to distract him from his responsibilities with Tottenham or Spain.
The defender expects Tottenham to place a significant valuation on him if another club were to pursue a deal. In his view, that would be understandable given the club’s assessment of his importance and the general economics of the transfer market. “The best always costs more,” he said, suggesting that any potential departure would require a substantial offer.
Porro was also careful to underline the respect he feels for Spurs. He said it would be unfair to discuss other clubs while he remains under contract in north London, noting that the respect shown to him by Tottenham is mutual. That stance does not rule out a return to Spain in the future, but it makes clear that there is no immediate transfer announcement to anticipate.
A possible return to Spain, but no club preference
Although Porro has said he would be happy to play in Spain again one day, he stopped short of naming a preferred destination. He described himself as adaptable and argued that he could fit into different teams and tactical systems.
That confidence is supported by his experience in the Premier League, where the pace, physical demands and intensity can present a steep adjustment for players arriving from other competitions. Porro believes adapting to English football has demonstrated his ability to handle different styles of play. For now, however, his comments point to professional flexibility rather than a coded message about a specific transfer.
For clubs assessing a potential right-back signing, versatility can be a valuable asset. Modern full-backs are often expected to contribute in several phases: defending one-on-one, advancing the ball, creating width and supporting attacks in central areas. Porro’s comfort with an adaptable role helps explain why his name can attract attention, even when reported interest has not developed into a formal move.
Porro praises Ferran Torres and Dani Carvajal
Porro also reflected on Spain’s World Cup success and the performances of his international teammates. He recalled encouraging Ferran Torres during the tournament, telling the forward to stay patient when opportunities were not arriving. Porro believed that football can change quickly and that Torres would eventually get his chance.
That opportunity came, and Porro said Torres made the most of it. The episode reflects one of the less visible elements of a successful international campaign: players must remain ready even when they are not regular starters. Tournament football can turn on a single substitution, a tactical change or an injury, making confidence and preparation important parts of a team’s progress.
Porro was equally generous in his assessment of Dani Carvajal, whom he called the best right-back to have played for Real Madrid, “by a wide margin.” The praise carries added significance coming from a player who operates in the same position and understands the demands of elite-level full-back play.
Carvajal’s reputation has been built through consistency, defensive commitment and experience in high-pressure matches. Porro also revealed that he appreciated receiving a message from the Real Madrid defender before the World Cup. The gesture, he said, meant a great deal as he prepared for the tournament.
Valverde’s versatility earns special admiration
Asked whether Fede Valverde could play at right-back, Porro gave an emphatic response: the Real Madrid midfielder could perform in almost any position. He described Valverde as an exceptional player and said he admires him greatly.
Valverde’s athleticism and tactical awareness have allowed him to cover different roles when needed, including wide positions and defensive duties. Porro nevertheless believes Valverde reaches an even higher level in his natural midfield position. He highlighted the Uruguayan’s physical power, technical quality and ability to make forward runs into the penalty area and score.
The comments underline a broader point about modern football: versatility is useful, but it does not always mean a player is at their best outside their specialist role. A coach may use a midfielder at right-back to solve a short-term problem or gain a particular tactical advantage, while still recognising that the player’s greatest influence comes from midfield.
Marcos Llorente’s decision surprised Porro
Porro also discussed Marcos Llorente’s international retirement, saying he learned about the decision after Spain’s celebrations. He admitted that the news surprised him because he believes Llorente still has plenty to offer the national team.
At the same time, Porro said every player has the right to make personal decisions about their career and life. Llorente spent many years competing for Spain, he noted, and his choice deserves respect even if teammates did not expect it.
For now, the clearest prediction about Porro’s future is that he intends to honour his Tottenham commitment rather than fuel transfer speculation. A return to Spain remains an appealing possibility in his own words, but no specific club or move has been confirmed. Until circumstances change, Spurs supporters can take his comments as a reaffirmation of his current focus—and a reminder that interest, rumours and a genuine transfer bid are not the same thing.
