Raja Casablanca Weigh Paco Jémez’s Future as Poor Results Fuel Fan Anger
Paco Jémez’s position at Raja Casablanca appears increasingly uncertain after a run of disappointing results intensified pressure from supporters and raised concerns inside the club. The Spanish coach is reportedly close to leaving, with Moroccan media saying Raja’s leadership is considering ending his contract following the team’s latest league setback.
A goalless or low-scoring draw against Hassania Agadir at Casablanca’s Larbi Zaouli Stadium added to the frustration surrounding the club. Raja have struggled to turn performances into victories, and the latest dropped points have sharpened calls for an urgent change in the dugout. While the club has not officially confirmed Jémez’s departure, reports suggest discussions between the coach and the board could take place soon to agree on the terms of a separation.
Three Draws Put Raja’s Season Under Pressure
Raja’s recent league form helps explain why speculation about Jémez’s future has gathered pace. After opening their campaign with a win over Nahdat Zemamra, the Casablanca side have failed to build momentum. They have since drawn with Maghreb de Fès, FUS Rabat and Hassania Agadir, leaving them without a victory in three consecutive league matches.
Those results have left Raja on six points and down in 11th place, a position that falls short of the expectations attached to one of Morocco’s most prominent clubs. A slow start does not determine the outcome of an entire season, but the lack of wins has created an immediate challenge: Raja need to restore confidence before the gap to the leading teams grows.
For supporters, the concern is not limited to the league table. Frustration has also focused on the team’s performances and the club’s wider sporting direction. Fans have reportedly directed criticism at both the coaching staff and the management, demanding decisions that can steady the team and show that Raja remain serious contenders for domestic honours and success in African football.
Renaissance Berkane Test Could Prove Crucial
Raja’s next league fixture, against Renaissance Berkane in the sixth round, carries added significance. Berkane are a formidable opponent, making the match a demanding test of Raja’s resilience and tactical organisation. A positive result could provide a much-needed lift and offer Jémez a chance to ease the pressure. Another setback, however, would likely intensify questions about whether a change of coach is necessary.
The immediate challenge for Raja is to find a reliable way to turn possession and attacking intent into goals and points. A team in a difficult run often needs more than a tactical adjustment: clear communication, stronger defensive concentration and renewed belief can all help halt a slide. The coming match may therefore serve as an important measure of how the squad is responding to the uncertainty around its leadership.
Raja’s Coaching Search and the Need for Stability
Reports indicate that Raja’s management have begun considering possible alternatives should Jémez leave. Any successor would inherit a demanding role: improve league results, rebuild the players’ confidence and prepare the team for a busy schedule that includes continental competition.
Choosing a replacement would also require careful timing. A mid-season coaching change can create a short-term boost, but it can disrupt routines if the new coach lacks time to understand the squad. Raja will need someone who can work with the players already available, identify the team’s most urgent weaknesses and set out a practical plan without relying on a lengthy rebuilding period.
For now, the club’s official position remains unclear. No final agreement on Jémez’s departure has been announced, and Raja have not named a successor. That uncertainty has left supporters waiting for a clear update as the team approaches a stretch of fixtures that could shape its domestic and continental campaign.
CAF Confederation Cup Matches Against Al-Ahly Loom
The coaching situation matters beyond the Moroccan league. Raja are also preparing for the CAF Confederation Cup group stage, where they share a group with Egypt’s Al-Ahly, Togo’s Kara and Angola’s Primeiro de Agosto. The two meetings between Raja and Al-Ahly are among the most anticipated fixtures for fans of both clubs.
Al-Ahly are scheduled to host Raja at Cairo Stadium between 18 and 20 December, before travelling to Morocco for the return match between 8 and 10 January. These games will test Raja against a major continental rival and could have a significant influence on the group standings. They also raise the stakes of the coaching decision: a new appointment would have limited time to prepare for two high-profile encounters, while keeping Jémez could give the squad continuity but leave questions about the team’s current direction unresolved.
Supporters will be watching closely to see whether Raja can regain their competitive edge before those fixtures arrive. In continental football, organisation and composure are often as important as individual quality, particularly when playing away from home. Raja will need to show greater consistency if they are to approach the Al-Ahly matches with confidence.
What Happens Next for Raja?
The club now faces a delicate balancing act. Raja’s leadership must respond to mounting fan anger while making a decision that gives the team the best chance of recovering. If Jémez departs, a swift and well-planned appointment could help refocus the squad. If he stays, the upcoming matches may become an immediate opportunity to demonstrate that the current project can still deliver improvement.
For fans following the latest football news and match prediction discussions, Raja’s meeting with Renaissance Berkane is a key fixture to watch. It may not settle every question about the coach’s future, but the result and performance could offer valuable clues about the team’s readiness to respond. Until the board makes an official announcement, speculation is likely to continue—and the pressure on Raja to produce a convincing turnaround will only grow.
