Hansi Flick’s Praise of Abde Ezzalzouli Fuels Barcelona Transfer Speculation
Hansi Flick’s admiration for Real Betis winger Abdessamad “Abde” Ezzalzouli appears to have roots that go back further than a single pre-match comment. The Barcelona coach’s warm assessment of the Morocco international has renewed interest in a possible future move, especially as the forward continues to impress in La Liga and increase his market value.
Flick praised Ezzalzouli before Barcelona faced Betis, describing him as a player whose confidence, directness and ability in one-on-one situations stand out. For a coach known to choose his words carefully when discussing footballers outside his own squad, the remarks were notable. They were not confirmation of a transfer plan, but they did underline that Ezzalzouli is a player Flick has watched closely.
Why Flick’s comments attracted attention
According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Flick is selective about the praise he gives. Asked about the Betis winger, he said: “What I see from him impresses me. He is a wonderful player, I like his way of playing football, the confidence he has in himself in one-on-one duels, and his ability to move in the final third of the pitch.”
The comments describe qualities that are increasingly valuable in modern attacking football. Ezzalzouli can carry the ball at speed, challenge defenders directly and create danger without needing a long build-up. His acceleration can force opponents to retreat, while his willingness to take on a marker gives his team a way to break through compact defensive lines.
Those strengths are particularly relevant for Barcelona, a side that often faces opponents defending deep. A winger who can beat a defender in isolation can create space for teammates, win fouls in dangerous areas and turn a settled attack into a scoring opportunity. Flick’s praise, however, should be viewed as an indication of respect rather than evidence that Barcelona are preparing a bid.
Barcelona’s previous interest and the resale clause
Barcelona have reportedly considered Ezzalzouli as a possible option during recent summer transfer windows. The Catalans explored the prospect of strengthening their wide positions, and the Moroccan was among the players discussed. Those approaches did not develop into a completed deal, with the winger remaining at Betis, where he has continued to build his reputation.
Barcelona nevertheless retain a financial connection to his future. When Ezzalzouli joined Betis in 2023, the clubs agreed that Barcelona would receive 50 per cent of a future resale fee. That arrangement was later revised as part of the negotiations surrounding Vitor Roque, the Brazilian forward who had been on loan at Betis.
Betis needed to approve Roque’s move to Palmeiras, and the resulting agreement saw Barcelona give up 30 percentage points of their share in Ezzalzouli’s resale proceeds. As reported, the Catalan club still retain 20 per cent. That clause could offer Barcelona a financial return if the winger is sold, although any future transfer would depend on the terms agreed between the clubs and the player.
Betis are benefiting from his development
The arrangement has become increasingly relevant as Ezzalzouli’s performances have improved. His market value is now estimated at around €40 million, and sustained progress could push that figure higher by next summer. A player’s valuation is not the same as a confirmed asking price, but it reflects the growing attention around his performances, age and potential.
For Betis, keeping a productive winger can be more valuable than selling at the first sign of interest. Ezzalzouli has become an important part of Manuel Pellegrini’s attacking plans, offering pace and unpredictability that can change the rhythm of a match. His growing influence also gives the club a stronger position in any future negotiations.
A standout display against Barcelona
Ezzalzouli’s performance against Barcelona offered a vivid example of why he has attracted such praise. He repeatedly used his speed and strength to attack down the left, putting pressure on Jules Koundé and forcing the defender to deal with difficult one-on-one situations throughout the match.
He also made his mark on the scoreboard. After a rapid counter-attack, Ezzalzouli finished confidently past goalkeeper Juan García to score Betis’s third goal and reduce the deficit to 2-3. The goal showcased more than his pace: he had to time his run, carry the ball into a dangerous area and remain composed as the chance opened up.
That combination of direct running and end product is central to his appeal. Wingers are often judged not only on how frequently they beat opponents but on whether their actions lead to goals, assists or meaningful chances. Ezzalzouli’s display demonstrated that he can contribute to the decisive moments as well as provide energy and width.
European performances add to his reputation
His impact has not been limited to domestic competition. Ezzalzouli has also produced eye-catching moments in European football, including a goal against Porto that was among the highlights of the matchday. Performances on that stage can help establish whether a player’s qualities translate against different styles, stronger opposition and higher-pressure situations.
For Betis supporters, his progress offers a reason for optimism. For potential suitors, it provides more evidence to assess before making a move. The next step will be consistency: maintaining his influence across a full season and continuing to improve his decision-making in the final third could strengthen both his sporting value and his transfer appeal.
Transfer prediction: admiration does not guarantee a move
Barcelona are not short of possible targets for the wings, with names such as Karim Adeyemi and Anthony Gordon also linked to the club. Squad needs, budget, contract situations and competition from other teams will all shape any future recruitment strategy. Flick’s comments alone do not establish that Ezzalzouli is Barcelona’s leading option.
Still, the connection is worth watching. Barcelona know the player, have previously explored his availability and retain a resale percentage. Flick’s public praise adds another layer to the story, while Ezzalzouli’s performances continue to strengthen his profile. If his form remains at this level, interest from major clubs could grow—and Betis may face difficult decisions about his future.
For now, the most sensible football prediction is that Ezzalzouli will remain a key figure at Betis unless a club presents an offer that suits both the player and the Andalusian side. A return to Barcelona is possible, but far from certain. What seems clear is that Flick sees a winger with rare acceleration, self-belief and the ability to make defenders uncomfortable—qualities that could keep the Moroccan international at the centre of transfer discussion in the months ahead.
